How Internet Marketers Can Use Social Media Web Sites
Wednesday, June 9th, 2010Platforms that offer social networking and online social bookmarking are incredibly popular these days. Yet, it’s difficult to determine which is right for you because to would be hard to try all of them. That’s where social media reviews come in. When you read the reviews, though, you may find vastly different judgments about their content. Many folks fight for their choice of online social networking sites vehemently. That’s probably because the site they fell in love with is one of the few they tried and they got hooked on one site without really knowing what’s out there. I’ve known a few who fought for their choice without even knowing the difference between business networking websites , bookmarking sites or sites that feature social networking as a means for people to have fun, date, play games or do various other entertainment-related activities. Many people don’t know that there also are social networking sites, like Yuwie, that pay for people to use and promote them.
Many people aren’t aware of the variations between online social networks because there is a tremendous amount of overlap of features on the various sites. Sites such as Facebook can be used just for fun or for serious business networking, or both! Thousands of user-created free networking communities have sprung up all over the Internet, such as Paper Craft Planet. These sites are really where the rubber hits the road when it comes to online social networks due to their emphasis on people’s niche interests. Communities focused on niches, such as book readers, abound. Book lovers social networking sites like Shelfari have everything from chats, book reviews and online bookshelves. Another powerful form of online networking sites is social bookmarking, which has become very popular. Sites that feature social bookmarking, such as Reddit, allow logged-in users to save their online bookmarks for free. These sites are also powerful for people who are searching for information, because tags that allow for easy searching can be assigned to each bookmark. The ability to use keyword tagging also is of value to Web marketers, because they can get backlinks for their Web properties. A single social bookmarking link isn’t that meaningful but when there are many of them, search traffic often increases. Also, like with Digg, if a blog post is entered on one of these sites, it can often rank high in Google if the person who submitted it understands how to research keyword tags and has entered the listing correctly.
Confusing the issue even more are sites like Digg, which are set up for both social networking and social bookmarking. They are quite useful for bookmarking URLs but they also provide a powerful platform for online social networking and marketing. You can make a lot of friends on these sites and links posted to these social networking platforms sometimes rank well in the search engines. This makes these type of sites genuine gold to Internet marketers.
